Monkey Business
It is said that The Buddha described the human mind as being filled with drunken monkeys: jumping, screeching, chattering, scratching, spitting, and carrying on endlessly.
Here are just a few of the monkeys that dance between our ears:
Fear is an especially loud monkey, incessantly sounding the “what if” alarm.
Resistance is the soldier monkey, who stands guard at the gates of progress and prevents us from moving forward.
Distraction is the bandit monkey, who robs us of our precious focus and attention.
Sabotage is the heartless monkey who constantly derails our goals and dreams.
Doubt is the skeptic monkey who flippantly throws water on our grand ideas.
Important because the truth is, there are no monkeys. There’s just us, and the stories and fantasies we tell ourselves…and then choose to believe.
