How to Play Kick The Can

Aug 30
1 min read

1) Choose a can, a destination, and a path.

2) Place the can right in the middle of the path.

3) Kick the can as hard as you can, while trying to keep it in the center of the path.

4) Walk up to the can and kick it again.

5) Repeat steps 3 and 4, ad infinitum.

The object of the game is simple: Keep kicking the can down the center of the path until you reach your destination.

If others criticize your work, consider their POV—then keep kicking the can.

If the voice in your head criticizes your work, ignore it—keep kicking the can.

If petty distractions pull you off course, refocus—then keep kicking the can.

If you make a mistake, learn from it, adjust your aim—and keep kicking the damn can.

If you’re worried about the competition, don’t. Everyone is kicking their own unique can, down their own chosen path, to their own personal destination.

Important because, the truth is, some folks arrive at their destination much faster than others. Maybe it’s the can they chose, the path they took, or the way they kick. Or perhaps they’re just natural-born can kickers. Either way, the more experience you rack up kicking your can down the path, the better you’ll get at the game—and the closer you’ll get to your destination. Have fun!
